A White asparagus (Good Living, June 23) is sold at most David Jones Foodhalls and Fratelli Fresh, Waterloo. It's currently imported from Peru. The local season starts in September. White and green asparagus are identical except the former is grown in darkness so it doesn't turn green. The celebrated French asparagus of Argenteuil is grown underground.
